One of the first members of the Air National Guard and Delaware, was organized in September 1946 and held various positions until he was appointed commander of the air, with the rank of brigadier general in 1956. He retired from this position in 1976.

He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Distinguished Flying with oak leaf cluster and Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Cross service ostentatious Delaware, and is rated pilot with more than 4500 hours.

Since the near-fatal accident in 1961, which led to extensive burns, which provided more than 1400 lectures on the survival and the safety of aviation in the incident, more than 140,000 people and provided training to many of the films. He has received many testimonies from those who credit their lives.
